Cyclist killed in crash on State Road 37

A cyclist was killed in a crash Tuesday on State Road 37 on the southside.

The crash happened just before 9:30 a.m. between County Line and Wicker roads, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Police have not released the name of the female cyclist.

The initial investigation showed that the cyclist was heading north on State Road 37 in the shoulder lane when she was hit by a truck driven by David Fields, 56, of Indianapolis, which was also heading north.

Police said the accident may have been caused by the truck leaving the road, but the matter is still under investigation. No one has been arrested, and police do not suspect the driver was under the influence, but his blood-alcohol content was taken, which is standard in fatal or serious-injury crashes.

The woman died at the scene. Fields was not injured.
