<p>GREENWOOD</p>
<p>Charles E. Mellencamp, 81, of Greenwood, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016.</p>
<p>He was born to the late Edwin and Irene Mellencamp on Aug. 5, 1935, in Cortland.</p>
<p>Charles worked for Greenwood Community School Corporation for 36 years as the director of guidance, formerly teaching English and serving as the English department chairman.</p>
<p>He was a member of Community Church of Greenwood, Gideon’s International and Greenwood Christian Academy Education Board.</p>
<p>Charles is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Holzlider Mellencamp; two daughters, Elizabeth M. Johnson (David McMillan) and Rebecca J. Chan (Edward M. Chan); five grandchildren, Nate and Claire Brock, Rachel Chan, Sarah Chan and Conner McMillan; along with several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.</p>
<p>He was preceded in death by a brother, William L. Mellencamp.</p>
<p>Calling will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Community Church of Greenwood, 1477 W. Main St., Greenwood. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Community Church of Greenwood, with calling from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour. </p>
<p>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Community Church of Greenwood.</p>
