Police called to bantam league football game

Bargersville police responded to a call at the Center Grove Bantam Football League facility Tuesday night, where unruly fan behavior during a game briefly caused some concern.

The call was placed at 8:27 p.m. during an Indy Border Wars game between fourth-grade teams between Center Grove and Lawrence. One of the coaches from the Lawrence team was ejected from a game for arguing with officials, and some of their fans began to get more vocal in their disapproval.

According to the Bargersville police report, two units were sent to the scene, arriving at 8:31 p.m. One of the cars stayed for five minutes, while the second remained on the scene until 9:20 p.m. to keep the peace.

Beau Barrett, a Center Grove coach, said the league made the 911 call as a preventative measure, but the situation never got out of hand. The game continued without further incident, and officers never had to exit their vehicles.
