Marilyn Moser Date

GREENWOOD

Marilyn Moser Date was born in Bandon, Oregon, on May 13, 1929, to parents, Frank and Vera Houston Moser. She was a resident of Greenwood.

Her family moved from Bandon to Corvallis, Oregon, where Marilyn spent her childhood.

She graduated from Corvallis High School in the class of 1947. She attended Lewis and Clark College her freshman year, transferring to Oregon State University in Corvallis for the rest of her college years. She graduated from OSU in the class of 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics.

She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She entered McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, graduating with a master’s degree in Christian Education in May of 1953.

She married the Rev. Henry S. Date on June 21, 1953. The couple moved to Lansing, Michigan, where her husband was pastor of Mount Hope Presbyterian Church. Their two sons, Henry and Terrence, were born in Lansing.

In 1958, the Dates moved to Manchester, New Hampshire, where Marilyn continued as a wife and mother. In 1961, the family moved from Manchester to Cincinnati, Ohio, where their two daughters, Melinda and Jennifer were born.

From there the Dates moved to East Cleveland, Ohio, and then to Indianapolis, Indiana. For the past 42 years, Marilyn and her husband have lived in the Southport and Greenwood areas.

Marilyn was actively involved in many ministries of the Southport Presbyterian Church, as well as Bible Study Fellowship. She was a lifelong member of PEO, a national women’s philanthropic organization. She was active in her children’s lives, leading Camp Fire Girls and being a camp counselor at church camp. She served a term as president of the Southport High School PTA.

She worked as chaplain at Greenwood Village South for eight years. She loved to travel and went on several trips abroad. She gave countless wedding showers and saw many brides down the aisle as she helped her husband at weddings of parishioners. She cared deeply about helping people through her involvement in the church, through education, and through showing hospitality.

She was a much-beloved pastor’s wife in each church where the Dates were called, and was known for her infectious laugh, joyful spirit, her love of people, and her sense of humor. The most important thing in her life was her relationship with her Lord Jesus Christ, who was the source of her joy.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years; daughters, Melinda Lea (Dean) Anderson of Healdsburg, California, and Jennifer Lynn (Mike) Woodard of West Lafayette; sons, Henry S. (Hilary) Date II Olga, Washington, and Terrence F. (Gail) Date of Woodinville, Washington; brother, the Rev. Paul (Brenda) Moser of Phoenix, Arizona; and 11 grandchildren.
