Police called over letter to congressman’s office

Greenwood police were called to a satellite office for an Indiana congressman when a staff member opened mail that she found alarming.

The letter to U.S. Rep. Todd Young, who has an office in Greenwood city hall, was from someone in Wisconsin and included what police referred to as a rant, according to the Greenwood Police Department report.

The staff member was concerned because of today’s political climate and contacted police Tuesday morning, the report said. Young, a Republican, faces Democrat Evan Bayh and Libertarian Lucy Brenton for a seat in the U.S. senate.

Police reviewed the letter, which did not contain any threats or substances, the report said.

Greenwood police contacted U.S. Capitol Police and sent them pictures of the mail. Capitol Police said they were familiar with the person who had sent the letter and would update his file, the report said.
