James C. Scifres

<p>COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.</p>
<p>James C. Scifres, 90, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away, Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at his son’s residence in Bargersville.</p>
<p>He was born Dec. 13, 1925, in Paterson, New Jersey.</p>
<p>He married Rosemarie J. (Chiodi) Scifres on July 28, 1962, in Englewood, New Jersey; she survives.</p>
<p>He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served on the USS Marblehead and the USS Springfield in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.</p>
<p>He then served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars as a navigator and missile maintenance officer. During the Vietnam conflict he flew over 150 combat missions, and he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight, the Air Medal on six occasions, and the Air Force Commendation Medal.</p>
<p>He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1970 after 23 years of service with the rank of major. He started a second career as a self-employed tax preparer in Colorado Springs from 1975 until his retirement in 2010.</p>
<p>He attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado.</p>
<p>He was a member of the Enrolled Agents of Colorado and the Turtles.</p>
<p>He enjoyed being with his family, traveling with his wife and going on cruises, the ocean, snow skiing and hunting.</p>
<p>Survivors include his wife, Rosemarie J. (Chiodi) Scifres; two sons, James C. Scifres Jr. (Norma Hughes Scifres) of Bargersville, and Steven W. Scifres (Amanda Collins Scifres) of Windsor, Colorado; eight grandchildren, James Colin, Gabriella, Torrance, Carsten John “CJ” Scifres, all of Bargersville, and Ty, Trace, Jada and Jude Scifres, all of Windsor, Colorado.</p>
<p>A memorial service is planned for a later date at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado.</p>
<p>Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, is handling the arrangements.</p>
