‘Meat’ need program to help feed hungry families

The Johnson County Community Foundation has given a grant to an organization that donates hunted game to needy families.

The foundation gave $2,500 to Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry’s “Meat” the Need program.

The funds will be used to assist Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry in paying processing fees for about 1,900 pounds of donated game in Johnson County. The meat will be distributed to area hunger relief agencies providing over 7,400 meals to residents in need, according to a statement.

Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry pays the processing fees on large game and livestock donated by hunters and farmers to the program. Hunters and farmers can donate at no charge by taking the animals to a participating meat processor.

Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry has helped to distribute over 645,000 pounds of meat to Indiana food banks, providing almost 2.6 million meals to Hoosiers in need, in the past five years.
