Elbert Lee Spaw

Sadly missed by family and friends, Elbert Lee Spaw passed away on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, to be with his maker from a Norfolk, Virginia, hospital. He lost a long battle with heart problems. Elbert was a resident of Franklin and also of Norfolk, Virginia.

He was a Marine and retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon C. Spaw; mother, Pauline G. Spaw; sister, Wilma Childers; a brother-in-law, Danny McCray; nephew, Daniel McCray; and a great-nephew, Justin C. Spaw.

Left to cherish his memory are his ex-wife and long lifetime friend of whom he thought a lot, Grace Parsons; a daughter, Karen Spaw; his loving siblings, Alva Catt Nomia Shelbyville, Jimmy and Peggy Spaw of Edinburgh, Roger Spaw (Ruth), Ronnie Spaw, Teresa McCray (Bryce), Phyllis Leedy (Rod), Wanda Mullins, Roger Absher and Robert Childers, all from Franklin.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Finn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North). The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted.
