Nell P. (Sewell) Tearman Monroe

FRANKLIN

Nell P. (Sewell) Tearman Monroe, 79, of the Franklin United Methodist Community, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016.

She was born March 26, 1937, in Chattaroy, West Virginia to the Rev. Emmett Sewell and Blanch (West) Sewell.

She married Bill Monroe on May 9, 2009, at the Franklin United Methodist Community; he survives.

She was a 1955 graduate of Raceland-Worthington High School in Raceland, Kentucky.

Nell started her career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1966 as a clerk at the Ashland, Kentucky post office. She then later became the PAR coordinator for the U.S. Postal Service in Indianapolis where she counseled drug addiction and alcoholics, then becoming postmaster at the Frankfort U.S. Post Office and finally the Greenwood U.S. Post Office, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of the Oder of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 439 in Franklin and New Life Baptist Church in Franklin.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Monroe of Franklin; sisters, Carol Hall of Franklin and Pricilla Muslin of Bellville, Michigan, a brother, Emmett W. Sewell of Ypsilanti, Michigan; stepchildren, Tamie Richard of Indianapolis, Tina Rush of Fairland, Lee Ann Vick (Butch) of Nineveh, Shanna Young (Red) of Sylvester, Georgia, Perry Monroe (Amy) of Beech Grove; 14 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Joyce Sewell; brothers J.W. Sewell and David M. Sewell; and one grandchild.

The Rev. Rick Henry will conduct a service at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Wright Chapel of the Franklin United Methodist Community, 1070 W. Jefferson St., Franklin. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. on Friday at the chapel. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Solomon Perry Cemetery near Dunlow, West Virginia.

Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 U.S. 31 South (Morton Street) in Franklin, is handling the arrangements.
