VFW planning to honor Vietnam veterans

Greenwood VFW Post 5864 will host a celebration to honor Vietnam veterans Saturday.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. Any Vietnam veteran, or veteran from another war, whether a member or not, is invited to attend. Vietnam veterans who arrived in country in 1966 will celebrate 50 years and will be honored.

There will be free entertainment by “The Gringo” Tony Kirk playing music from that era and free food, including sloppy joes, mac and cheese, potato salad, baked beans, chips and other goodies.

The VFW, through the Department of Defense’s Vietnam War Commemoration partnership program, is working in local communities to recognize service and contributions Vietnam War veterans have made to the nation.

The Commemoration of the 50th anniversary continues throughout local communities around the country.
