Kenneth Brewer Whitaker

Kenneth Brewer Whitaker, 94, of Greenwood, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016.

Born Aug. 29, 1922, in Bud, to Dault and Margaret Whitaker, he was a veteran of the U.S Air Force.

He served as superintendent for Farm Bureau Insurance and was a former history teacher in Nineveh.

He was former president of Center Grove school board, and a member of Greenwood Masonic Lodge No. 514 F&AM and Greenwood American Legion Post 252.

Affectionately known as “The Tomato Man,” you would often see him selling his crop next to Target on State Road 135.

He married the love of his life, Helen F. Whitaker in 1945; she survives. Additional survivors include his children, Kenneth D. (Diana) Whitaker and Teresa “Terry” (Kyle) West; grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Whitaker, Brent (Cassandra) Whitaker and Taylor West; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Daniel, Jacob, Olivia and Evelyn; and sister, Sylvia O’Kearney.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Tracy Whitaker, Robert Whitaker, Francis Whitaker and Jerry Whitaker.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home at The Gardens at Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
