Woman injured in fall from tree stand

A woman is in critical condition after falling 18 feet while setting up a deer stand in Morgantown.

Tamra Hayden, 25, of Morgantown, was helping put up a tree stand at a property in the 5900 block of Old State Road 135 about 1 p.m. Thursday. While attempting to secure the stand to the tree, the stand shifted, causing her to fall about 18 feet to the ground, an Indiana Department of Natural Resources news release said. She was not wearing a safety harness, the release said.

Hayden, who was awake and breathing, was airlifted to Indiana University Methodist Hospital due to possible injuries to her back and legs, the release said. Morgantown emergency workers, along with those in Bargersville and Trafalgar, helped state conservation officers at the scene.

Hayden was in critical condition on Friday morning, according to a hospital spokesperson.
