October sees uptick in home building

Home building was up statewide last month, compared to the same time last year.

Statewide, home building is also up for the year so far, according to a news release from the Indiana Builders Association.

In October, communities issued 1,264 single-family building permits, compared to 1,174 in 2015. That number was an 8 percent increase from the year before, the release said.

Single-family building permits also are up 14 percent for the year so far, compared to the year before, the release said.

“Increased economic improvement and consumer confidence are both factors that have played into the steady advancement of new home sales this year, and we expect that trend will continue into 2017,” Indiana Builders Association Chief Executive Officer Rick Wajda said in the release.

In Johnson County, home building was up about 8 percent for the year so far, compared to the previous year, according to the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis, which tracks building permit activity in central Indiana.
