James L Franke, 90, of Greenwood, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016.

Born April 19, 1926, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Leo and Gertrude Franke, he graduated from Elder High School in 1944 and served in the South Pacific in the U.S. Navy.

He was a graduate of Xavier University.

A 45-year member of Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, he was a devoted volunteer at church and served 27 years at St. Vincent de Paul.

An avid golfer, he enjoyed stamp and coin collecting and hiking outdoors.

He worked at the IRS and the Indiana Department of Revenue.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary Elaine (Hefele) Franke; children, Steven Franke (Kathie), Eric Franke (Kathy), Susan Schiller (Steve), David Franke (Judy) and John “Jay” Franke (Penney), Gregory Franke and Jennifer Frederick (Sam); sister, Myra Hendy (Jack); 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Hal Franke, Lonny Franke and Trudy Yaegel.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, 335 S. Meridian St., Greenwood, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon. He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
