Faynetta R. Hollis

<p>Faynetta R. Hollis, 92, of Franklin and formerly of Bloomfield, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, in Bell Trace Health and Living Center.</p>
<p>She was born July 27, 1924, in Quincy, Illinois to William Larkin Westbrook and Emma Grace Pfaff Westbrook. She was retired from Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center.</p>
<p>Survivors include a foster son, Walter Welch, Jr. and his wife, Bettie of Jacksonville, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Thelma Hollis of Jacksonville, Florida; a brother-in-law, James D. Hall of Carmel; several nieces and nephews, and her longtime friend, Charlene Dornick of Worthington.</p>
<p>She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lowden W. "Lo" Hollis; two brothers, William F. and Manuel L. Westbrook; and two sisters, W. Grace Westbrook Hall and Clara June Westbrook Burlingham.</p>
<p>Faynetta married Lo on Nov. 13, 1943, while he was serving in the U. S. Army. She retired from Crane in 1960 as secretary to the supply officer. She was a past member of the National Secretaries Association, was a licensed cosmetologist, an alumni of Indiana University, a member of the Red Hat Society in Bloomfield, a pianist for the Gospel Mellowtones Quartet in the 1960’s and played for local churches throughout her lifetime. She was of the protestant faith and a writer of human interest stories, belonging to several local writers groups with a number of stories published, including in the National Bulletin of American Association of Retired Persons.</p>
<p>A memorial service will be held at a later date in First Baptist Church, Linton, with cremation rites being accorded under the direction of Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Bloomington. Inurnment will take place at Sugarland Memory Gardens in Washington.</p>
