The top business recruiter for Johnson County has resigned, and local officials are looking for her replacement.

Cheryl Morphew has resigned from her position as president and chief executive officer of the Johnson County Development Corp. Morphew had served in that role since 2005.

The organization is now searching for a new leader, according to a news release.

Morphew is pursuing other opportunities, the release said. Morphew had replaced former director Chris Kinnett, who resigned in 2005.

A committee of Johnson County Development Corp. investors and local stakeholders will be searching for Morphew’s replacement. The goal is to have a new leader named by the second quarter of 2017, the release said. Until then, the board and Dana Monson, manager of community development initiatives, will oversee the organization.

“The Executive Committee and I have much confidence that the transition to a new leader will be successful and allow JCDC to continue its vital role in growing Johnson County,” board chairman Patrick Sherman said.

The Johnson County Development Corp. is a public-private partnership funded by contributions by local governments and businesses. The Daily Journal is a member of the organization.

The organization’s mission is to help recruit new businesses to local communities and help encourage existing businesses to expand. The group, which recently celebrated its 25-year anniversary, provides businesses with demographic and other information about local communities, helps organize site visits and works with local governments on incentive packages, the release said.

In addition, the group also created Aspire Johnson County, composed of local business leaders, that is working on initiatives with a goal of bettering the county.
