Interchurch Food Pantry of Johnson County has received donations from local businesses through the pantry’s new sponsorship program.
Sponsors have ensured that the pantry will be able to feed Johnson County families through the first two weeks of the new year.
Frechette Eye Center, Caterpillar and Fletcher Chrysler have sponsored the days leading up to Christmas. Monarch Beverage has sponsored the week of Christmas and New Year’s Eve, and Horizon Bank is sponsoring for the first two weeks of January.
The sponsorship program allows churches, businesses, organizations and individuals to financially support the pantry for a designated period each year. Sponsorships can be for a half day, a full day, a week or a month to supply food.
In 2015, the pantry served individual households 16,827 times. This year, the number of households served is up by 24 percent, according to pantry managers.
