Two arrested after call for hostage situation

A slew of police officers were called to a Center Grove area mobile home community after someone reported a hostage situation, which didn’t end up being true.

Instead, police arrested one woman on drug charges and a man on a warrant.

Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a home in Center Grove Estates, off County Line Road, just after noon Thursday, where someone reported a man was holding people hostage with a gun, according to the sheriff’s office report.

A deputy tried knocking on the door and on the walls of the home, but no one answered. After other deputies arrived, he began to kick at the door, because of the concern someone could be in danger. A woman then answered the door, the report said.

The woman told police there was a misunderstanding after she told her boyfriend to leave because she worried other people at the home would harm him, but that she couldn’t leave. Her boyfriend thought she meant she was being held hostage, the report said.

A woman inside the home threw a bag outside, with a substance inside that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Heather Benham, 37, 309 S. 3rd St., New Market, was arrested on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Deputies also found a man in the home, Christopher McClure, 40, 31 Sunbury Drive, Mooresville, was wanted on a warrant, and he also was  arrested.

Both were taken to the Johnson County jail. Benham was held on $16,000 bond. McClure was held without bond.
