Night on the town: No shortage of Valentine’s Day events at area venues

There’s no excuse not to have a fun night on the town for Valentine’s Day this year. Here’s a lineup of area events coming up this next week.

Dinner dance

Greenwood VFW 5864 will offer a special prime rib dinner and live entertainment on Friday. The evening begins at 6 p.m. at the post, 333 S. Washington St.

Dinner will include baked potato, green beans, salad, roll and butter.

Entertainment will be by the Luke Carol Project.

Tickets for this event are $20 per person. Those who did not purchase a ticket prior to Feb. 2 will have to order from the regular Friday night menu. Call the VFW at 317-888-2488 for availability.

There also will be door prizes, 50/50’s, and a Bottle Toss. Valentine’s Day photos will be taken for donations.

Valentine’s dinner

A Bargersville winery will offer couples a romantic evening of wining, dining and dancing on Friday.

The Sycamore at Mallow Run’s event starts at 7 p.m. at 7070 W. Whiteland Road, Bargersville.

The evening will include a multi-course dinner with a special Mallow Run wine pairing for each course and entertainment during dinner from The Castlewood Singers.

After dinner dancing with the Big Band sounds of Cool City Band until 10:30 p.m., wine, beer and cocktails will be available for purchase; cost is $75 per person.

Parent-child dance

Families can have a special Valentine’s Day dance of their own this weekend.

All are invited to Greenwood’s parent/child dance Friday at the Greenwood Community Center, 100 Surina Way.

Kids and adults can dance the night away. Tickets are $5 per couple — one adult and one child, additional children are $1 each.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ Mama Mia.

Victorian Valentines

Crafters and history lovers will converge at the Johnson County Museum of History for a special holiday workshop Saturday.

The annual Victorian Valentine workshop will be noon to 3 p.m. at 135 N. Main St., Franklin.

All ages are invited to create a one-of-a-kind Valentine’s Day card. Visitors will learn about the history of Valentine’s Day, see intricate cards from the museum’s collection for inspiration, and create a card of their own to give to family or friends.

The workshop is free of charge, and all materials will be provided. Light refreshments will be served.

Sweetheart dinner

Greenwood American Legion Riders are offering 1-pound ribeye steak dinner Saturday for $25, for $5 extra with all the fixings salad bar, baked potato and homemade Swedish cake for desert.

Dinner starts at 4:30 p.m. at the post, 334 U.S. 31 South.

A large shrimp cocktail is also offered for $5. Chicken breast marinated in white wine and lemon caper sauce option available as well. Karaoke starts at 8 p.m. and Call 317-881-1752 after 12 noon for ticket availability.

Big Band Valentines Jazz

The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra will present a Big Band Valentines Day concert starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Jazz Kitchen 5377 North College Ave., Indianapolis.

The concert will highlight a popular selection of classic songs about love and the heart perfect for the holiday, with songs like “My Funny Valentine,” “I’m In The Mood For Love,” “Secret Love,” “Heart And Soul,” “My Foolish Heart,” “Our Love Is Here To Stay,” and many more. The show will feature the orchestra’s talented cast of singers and instrumentalists.

Reservations are suggested as seating is very limited.
