Show choirs bring home honors

Show choirs from the area sang their way to champion status at local invitationals this weekend.

Both The Debtones and Sound System from Center Grove High School won grand champion in their classes at the Contest of Champions at Edgewood High School.

Another Center Grove choir, Surround Sound, earned first runner up.

The Debtones collected awards for Best Visual and Best Vocals. Senior Grace Maher was named Outstanding Performer, and Sydney Hurst was named Best Soloist in the unisex division.

Sound System received awards for Best Tech Crew, Best Visual, Best Vocals and senior Maria Rose was named Outstanding Performer. Senior Alex Milligan was named Best Male Soloist in the championship division.

Surround Sound’s Sarah Connors, a senior, and Accents’ Susan May, a freshman, both earned Outstanding Performer for their choirs.

The Heritage Singers at Franklin Community High School placed third at Edgewood and Erin Jones was named best female soloist in a show.

Kevin Thompson and Ellie Bennett were awarded first place male and female soloists.

The Rhythm Masters of Whiteland Community High School finished fourth in the large mixed show choir category. Senior Hunter Reed was awarded the Rhythm Masters Outstanding Performer.

Results were not available for Indian Creek.
