Shoppers briefly evacuated after bomb threat

Shoppers at the Walmart on County Line Road were briefly evacuated on Friday after the store was told a bomb had been placed inside, Greenwood police said.

The Walmart store in Beech Grove also received a threat at the same time, police said.

No bomb was found and shoppers were allowed back inside within about 15 minutes, Greenwood Police Department spokeswoman Kortney Burrello said.

The incident was reported about 11 a.m. Friday. A woman had called a store manager and said that a man had put a pipe bomb in the hardware section, and it would go off in an hour, Burrello said.

Walmart chose to evacuate the store, two officers conducted a search and Walmart reviewed surveillance video, Burrello said. Nothing suspicious was found, and shoppers returned to the store.
