Man arrested for drugs after traffic stop

A man was arrested after a traffic stop, where police found drugs and scales in the vehicle.

Just after 3 p.m. Thursday, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a vehicle on State Road 37 near Banta Road and noticed the driver was acting nervous, the sheriff’s office report said.

The deputy searched the driver and the vehicle and found drugs, including two bags hidden in the door.

Joseph M. Ramsey, 30, of Shelbyville, was arrested on a charge of dealing methamphetamine and possession of a narcotic.

The deputy found a small bottle in Ramsey’s pocket with a crystal-like substance, which Ramsey said he found at the gas station. Ramsey also told the deputy the bags inside the vehicle door contained morphine. The deputy also found scales and more than $900, the report said.

Ramsey, 629 W. 8th St., was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was released on $8,000 bond.
