<h4><strong>Open house, health event at Sam’s Club</strong></h4>
Sam’s Club Hearing Center is celebrating National Better Hearing Month with an open house and health event today.
The event will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and free health screenings will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day will include snacks, giveaways and valuable information. Bring in your list of prescriptions for important information as well.
Membership is not required for a free comprehensive hearing test.

<h4><strong>Greenwood resident named president-elect of group</strong></h4>
Dr. Christopher Browning of Greenwood was inducted as president-elect of the Indiana Optometric Association.
Browning and other officers were inducted at the IOA’s 120th annual spring convention in late April, at the Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel at Keystone Crossing.
He has also served in other leadership positions within the organization, including as president of the Central Indiana Optometric Society and as a trustee.
Browning is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Optometry and practices at VisionQuest EyeCare in Greenwood.
<h4><strong>Top loan originator announced at Ruoff Home Mortgage</strong></h4>
Residential mortgage lender Ruoff Home Mortgage announced that Donnie Dodson was the top loan originator companywide for the month of April. The top spot in each branch office, as well as the company, is based on the number of closed loans during the month, as compared to peers.
Dodson has been with Ruoff Home Mortgage since May 2015.
Dodson works out of the Greenwood office, which is located at 972 Emerson Parkway, Suite C.
<h4><strong>Leadership group plans project, workshop</strong></h4>
Leadership Johnson County will host a team project and business communication workshop May 17.
"Communication and Connection Aren’t For Dummies: Using Your Words for Clarity, Teamwork and More" will be 9 a.m. to noon at Franklin College. This half-day workshop will feature author John Kaufeld who has written or contributed to 33 books, including 25 titles in the popular “For Dummies” series.
Tickets are $49 per person for Leadership Johnson County graduates, Franklin College alumni, and Franklin and Greater Greenwood Chamber of Commerce members. General public pricing is $59 per person. Group discounts are available for five or more attendees. The workshop is being underwritten by the Elba L. & Gene Portteus Branigin Foundation.

<h4><strong>Burton to lead economic task force</strong></h4>
State Rep. Woody Burton (R-Whiteland) recently attended a legislative task force summit in North Carolina, where he worked with other state lawmakers on policies concerning commerce and economic development.
Burton was selected to serve as the public sector co-chair for the American Legislative Exchange Council’s Task Force on Commerce, Insurance and Economic Development. At the summit, Burton met with public servants and business leaders from across the country to discuss relevant policy considerations facing states.
In the coming months, Burton will lead task force meetings focused on fuel economy in the trucking industry, various banking and commerce issues, and specific insurance matters.
<h4><strong>Local business owner earns honorary degree</strong></h4>
Johnson County business owner Marc Adams was honored at the spring University of Indianapolis commencement.
Adams is the founder of the Marc Adams School of Woodworking in Whiteland, and was one of four honorary degree recipients
Adams is a 1981 graduate of the university. The woodworking school is one of the leading training schools in North America, according to a statement. He spent the past 30 years transferring his passion and skills to help others learn the craft of woodworking. The school serves more than 2,500 students each year and is an important contributor to the Johnson County economy.
Adams, and his wife, Susie, also is an alumna, support many philanthropic causes, both locally and abroad.
<h4><strong>Home Bank SB earns honor</strong></h4>
Home Bank SB was recognized as a Five Star Member of the Indiana Bankers Association at the 2017 IBA Mega Conference on May 3 in downtown Indianapolis.
Home Bank SB earned the award in recognition of its commitment to the IBA in the areas of political awareness, issues advocacy, life-long learning, volunteerism and Preferred Service Provider utilization.
The Indiana Bankers Association supports Indiana banking through issues analysis, professional education, and products and services that help banks serve their communities.
