THE GREAT RACE, June 27, downtown Franklin; Franklin will host an overnight stop on the 2017 Hemmings Motor News Great Race; The Great Race, the world’s premiere old car rally, will bring 120 of the world’s finest antique automobiles to town for the $150,000 event, with the first car rolling onto South Main Street downtown at the Johnson County Courthouse starting at 5 p.m. In all, the participants in the event will cover more than 2,100 miles in 9 days. The start will be on Main Street in downtown Jacksonville, Fla., on June 24. The race will finish July 2 in Traverse City, Michigan, on the banks of Grand Traverse Bay just off Lake Michigan as part of that city’s annual Cherry Festival. Teams and cars from Japan, England, Germany, Canada and every corner of the United States will be participating in their vintage automobiles dating back as far as 1916.

History
DESTINATION INDIANA, Indiana Historical Society, 450 W. Ohio St., Indianapolis; facilitated, interactive exhibits that use digital technology, touch screens and immersive displays of historic images and documents to explore and understand the story of Indiana using photographs and other archival materials such as broadsides, manuscripts, maps, printed items and sheet music. Destination Indiana features eight “drive yourself” time-travel stations that can each hold as many as six guests. The space also includes a large-group experience that offers access to nine journeys on its 22.5-foot by 7.5-foot screen, which features twice the resolution of a 1080i high-definition television set. Each station includes at least one journey for each of Indiana’s 92 counties, as well as “Indiana Stories” on subject matters such as African-American Hoosiers, the Civil War, the Ohio River, mapping the state, social justice and reform, rail transportation, agriculture and more are also explored.

AMITY VOLUNTEER FIRE RELAY FOR LIFE BREAKFAST FUNDRAISER, 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 17, Amity Volunteer Fire Department will host a Relay for Life breakfast fundraiser — biscuits and gravy, eggs, sausage and a choice of drink; cost for adults is $7 and for children under 10 is $5. All are welcome. All proceeds go tot he American Cancer Society for research funding.
