Railroad work to cause week-long road closures

Construction crews working on the railroad through Franklin have announced a one-week closure for a crossing north of the downtown area.

The Graham Road and Lynhurst Street railroad crossing will be closed starting Tuesday and will reopen Saturday.

Crews are working to replace railroad ties so that trains moving at higher speeds can travel on the Louisville and Indiana Railroad Co. tracks.

Franklin Mayor Steve Barnett and city engineer Mark Richards met with railroad company officials Friday because of issues with too many crossings being closed at once, with little to no communication from the construction companies.

Construction crews pledged to not close more than two rail crossings at a time, Barnett said.

Work on the downtown crossings on Branigin Boulevard and Monroe, Jefferson and King streets should be complete.

This weekend, the crossings on Adams and Cincinnati streets will be under construction.

The crossings on Commerce and Earlywood drives will also be under construction in the coming days.
