A Franklin school was put on lockdown and police were called after a fight at recess.
Police were called to Needham Elementary School just after 12:30 p.m. after two fourth-graders got into a fight at recess. A teacher tried to break up the fight, and one of the students attacked her, Franklin Police Chief Tim O’Sullivan said.
That student was arrested, he said. The teacher did not need medical treatment, he said.
When police were called, school officials decided to put the building on lockdown, meaning students had to stay in their classrooms and not be in the hallways of the school, Franklin schools superintendent David Clendening said.
That decision was made so that all students were accounted for and safe while police were there, he said. Once police left, the lockdown was lifted, Clendening said.
