Local bands moving on to semistate

Two local marching bands advanced to semistate after weekend competitions.

Marching bands from Center Grove High School and Whiteland Community High School qualified this weekend to compete in the semistate competition Oct. 28 at Ben Davis High School. The Greenwood Marching Woodmen qualified for semistate earlier this month.

Center Grove will perform at 1 p.m. and Whiteland will perform at 1:13 p.m. The Greenwood Marching Woodman will perform at 1:13 p.m. Oct 28 at Pike High School.

Center Grove’s marching band received a gold rating with a distinction in music at the Indiana State School Music Association regional tournament hosted at their high school, marching band director Kevin Schuessler said.

The Whiteland Marching Warriors also qualified to move on to semistate, said Pete Sampson, band director at Whiteland Community High School.

Marching Braves at Indian Creek High School earned a bronze rating at the regional competition at Center Grove High School. The band didn’t qualify for semistate.

The Blue Regiment at Franklin Community High School will perform this weekend at the Indiana State School Music Association scholastic state finals at 7:01 p.m. Saturday at Lawrence Central High School.
