Edinburgh man arrested after highway drive

An Edinburgh man was arrested after police said he drove the wrong way on U.S. 31 and nearly hit a police car.

Johnnie K. Streeval, 52, of 8932 S. Edinburgh Road, was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .15 percent or more.

A Columbus police officer stopped a vehicle on U.S. 31 just before 5 a.m. Sunday that had been going north in the southbound lanes, appeared to be speeding and nearly struck a police car, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Streeval refused all field sobriety tests as well as a blood test, he said. Police got a search warrant for the blood test and took Streeval to the Bartholomew County Jail, where he was released on $12,500 bond.
