Truck, other items stolen in area

The sheriff’s office is asking residents in the Center Grove area to check their home surveillance video after a vehicle and other items were stolen in a string of thefts Sunday night.

A pickup truck was stolen from a home in the Carefree neighborhood, south of Fairview Road and west of State Road 135. A vehicle reported stolen from Mooresville was parked less than a half-mile away in the same neighborhood, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office reports said.

Investigators suspect the two stolen vehicles are related and that whoever dumped the stolen vehicle in the neighborhood stole and fled in another vehicle, Sheriff Doug Cox said. The pickup truck was stolen out of the driveway of a home in the first block of Serenity Way. The homeowner told deputies that the 2015 silver Chevy Silverado pickup truck went missing between 11 p.m. Sunday and 5:15 a.m. Monday.

Deputies are also investigating a string of other thefts in the area. Work tools, a remote control drone, a knife, hatchet and other items were stolen from vehicles in the Pebble Hills and Walnut Woods neighborhoods, reports said.

The sheriff’s office has received four reports of stolen items so far, but expects that number is higher. Some residents don’t report thefts that they believe are minor, Cox said.

Anyone who has been a victim of theft, including change stolen from a vehicle, should report it to police, Cox said. Every report helps investigators get a better idea of what took place and could lead them to surveillance cameras with a view of a suspect, he said.

Residents in the neighborhoods where the thefts took place should check their home security systems and contact the sheriff’s office at 317-346-4654 if they notice anything suspicious, Cox said.
