College update – March 24

Xavier’s Grant Stapleton ran a time of 1:56.39 to place second in the 800-meter run at Butler’s Stan Lyons Invitational. The next meet for the former Center Grove runner is Wednesday through March 31 at the Raleigh (N.C.) Relays.

CENTER GROVE

Junior Austin Crowder led the IUPUI men’s golf team to victory at the Bulldog Invitational at Jacksonville, Florida. Crowder finished second individually and, in the process, carded a hole-in-one on the par-3 third hole.

Sophomore Jackson Williams placed 12th overall in helping lead Franklin College men’s golf to a win at the Thomas More Invitational. Williams’ two-day score was 78-80—158.

Junior Mallory Baker had five hits in five games for Purdue’s softball team during its participation in the Riverside Classic in California.

IUPUI second baseman Mandy Dallas hit a double and home run in a 7-3 loss to Bowling Green at the Lipscomb Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee.

Black Hills State catcher Maddie London had three hits and drove in two runs in a two-game sweep against Colorado School of Mines.

Marian second baseman and leadoff hitter Eathan Stephen drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and added a hit in a 3-1 loss to Taylor.

Indiana freshman Ethan Shepherd tied for 13th place individually as the Hoosiers placed third at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular in Florida.

INDIAN CREEK

Evansville freshman Tucker Dawson placed 27th in the 1,500 at the Stan Lyons Invitational in Indianapolis in a time of 4:34.87. On the women’s side, Izzy Dawson ran the 3,000 for the Aces, finishing 35th in 12:09.91.

GREENWOOD

Sophomore Zach Lester was part of the doubles tandem that scored the lone point for Franklin College men’s tennis in its 8-1 loss to Rose-Hulman.

Dayton senior tennis players Jade and Jackie Kawamoto delivered three of their team’s points in a 4-3 victory against Ball State. The two each won singles matches and teamed in doubles for a 7-5 win.

Megan Overton made two pitching starts and came on in relief in another in IUPUI’s four games during a weekend round robin at Lipscomb.

RONCALLI

Greenwood native Pauly Milto was the starting pitcher in Indiana’s 4-3 defeat of Northern Illinois. Milto worked 52/3 innings, giving up three hits and striking out seven.

Franklin College first baseman Drew Naumovich, a Greenwood resident, had a hit and scored a run in the Grizzlies’ 5-3 win against Capital in the first game of a doubleheader.

Johnson County product Timmy Miller took 29th place for the Evansville men’s track team at the Stan Lyons Invitational in Indianapolis. Miller’s time was 4:39.04.

WHITELAND

Junior Monica Collins went 4 for 7 at the plate for Franklin College softball as the Grizzlies swept a doubleheader against visiting Capital.

FRANKLIN

Franklin College pitcher Olivia Paszek ran her season record to 6-0 with a three-hitter in an 8-0 win against Capital in the first game of a doubleheader. Grace Paszek added four hits in the sweep, including a double and triple.
