Donation boosts Bridges Alliance

As local leaders continue efforts to alleviate poverty in Johnson County,a $10,000 donation will help provide education and resources to the neediest local residents.

Home Bank provided the donation to Bridges Alliance of Johnson County, a program founded to bring together resources from throughout the community, guiding people caught in the cycle of poverty to more stable and independent lives.

The money will go toward supporting the individuals and families who want to move out of poverty, according to Lisa Arnold, executive vice president and COO of Home Bank.

Bridges Alliance of Johnson County is a collaboration of social service organizations, businesses, individuals and religious groups that have collaborated to create the poverty-reduction program.

People chosen for the program, who have expressed the desire to move out of poverty, will go through a 14-week session, where they will be encouraged to lay out a plan and establish goals of what they want to achieve to break out of poverty.

They are then matched with allies who collaborate with them as they work towards economic stability — giving advice on résumés and job interviews, get assistance finding job training or locating affordable housing.

Home Bank has been a supporter of the county’s anti-poverty efforts in the past. The company has been an active supporter of KIC-IT and homelessness efforts throughout Johnson County. The bank has spearheaded a Bridges Out of Poverty initiative in 2016, which helped establish much of the Bridges Alliance’s framework.
