College update – March 31

Indiana University swimmer Levi Brock placed fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Indian Creek High School graduate touched the wall in a time of 51.38 seconds for the third-place Hoosiers. Brock also finished 16th in the 200 breaststroke in 1:56.32.

Miami (Florida) freshman Zach Cooper, a Greenwood resident, finished seventh in platform diving with a score of 386.85 points.

INDIAN CREEK

Franklin College freshman Hunter Fields picked up a pair of runner-up finishes at the Earlham Duals women’s track and field meet. The Indian Creek graduate high-jumped 1.44 meters and threw 8.82 meters in the shot put for the Grizzlies.

GREENWOOD

IUPUI sophomore pitcher Megan Overton picked up two wins at Youngstown State. She surrendered three hits in the second game and struck out a total of 17 batters in the two games combined.

Reid Werner pitched three innings of relief in the University of Indianapolis’ 14-2 baseball victory at Lewis to close out the team’s four-game road series. Werner allowed two hits and struck out four.

Freshman catcher Damon Maynard had a single for Olney Central in its 6-0 loss to Lake Land.

Taylor catcher Davis Carter went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and an RBI in her squad’s 4-2 softball loss to St. Francis.

CENTER GROVE

Indiana Wesleyan junior right fielder Victoria Boyer drove in a run with a hit and stole a base in a 7-2 loss to Marian. She drove in two runs with a double in the second game of the doubleheader, an 8-6 Marian win.

Montevallo (Alabama) pitcher Abbey Pratt notched her second save of the season, working the final two innings in a 4-2 win against West Georgia.

Freshman Lexi Gaffney had a hit in her lone plate appearance in Franklin College’s 8-5 softball triumph at North Central College.

Taylor’s Courtney Moriarty got the start and pitched four innings in a 4-3 loss to St. Francis. She also contributed two hits for the Spartans in the doubleheader.

Purdue first baseman Mallory Baker belted her third home run of the season in the first game of a three-game home series against Illinois.

Sophomore catcher Maddie London had two doubles and three hits overall in Black Hills State’s four-game softball series at Chadron State.

Marian left fielder Nick Coy went 3 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs in the Knights’ loss to Indiana Wesleyan in the second game of a doubleheader. Coy scored a run in the first outing.

Grace College shortstop Ethan Brooks picked up singles in losses against Huntington and Marian.

Sophomore pitcher Jacob Cantleberry upped his record to 7-1 for San Jacinto-North with a victory against McLennan. He now sports a 1.85 earned-run average to go along with 48 strikeouts in 39 innings.

Junior centerfielder Devon Hensley had two hits for the University of Indianapolis baseball squad as the Greyhounds won three of four games at Lewis. Indy catcher Will Smithey added a single and sacrifice fly as the team ran its record to 17-4.

IUPUI second baseman Mandy Dallas had three hits in her team’s three-game series at Youngstown State. Teammates Delainey Turner and Maddie Keeley each provided two hits.

Indiana golfer Ethan Shepherd carded a score of 75-76-79—230 to help the Hoosiers finish seventh in the 12-team Bighorn Invitational in Palm Desert, California.

WHITELAND

Senior rightfielder Jared Adkins belted a home run and scored two runs in Taylor’s 14-5 defeat of Bethel.

Sophomore pitcher Danielle Munn worked three innings of relief in Indiana Wesleyan’s 7-2 loss to Marian. She pitched the final frame of an 8-6 loss in the second game, not allowing a hit.

Monica Collins drove in a run and scored one herself in Franklin College’s 8-5 softball win at North Central College.

FRANKLIN

Butler freshman Chandler McGaha won his heat of the 800-meter run at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational in a time of 1:56.07. The time proved 11th-fastest overall.

Senior Olivia Paszek pitched a complete game for Franklin College softball, striking out seven batters in the Grizzlies’ 8-5 victory against North Central College. First baseman Grace Paszek had a double and a stolen base.

RONCALLI

Drew Naumovich drove in two runs to help the Franklin College baseball team score an 11-6 victory against Keuka in the first day of the team’s spring break trip to Auburndale, Florida.
