<strong>County autism group hosting kids camp</strong>

The Johnson County Autism Support Group will host Camp Can Do, a camp for children on the autism spectrum.

The eighth annual camp will be conducted the weeks of June 11, 18 and 25. Camp times are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at Whiteland Community High School. Cost is $150 per week.

<strong>Right to Life hosting speech contest</strong>

Right to Life of Johnson County and Morgan County is having a oratory contest.

High school teens will compete from 10:30 a.m. to noon April 21 at Bluff Creek Christian Church, 6286 W. State Road 144, Greenwood.

<strong>Greenwood students can enter art contest</strong>

High school and middle school students can enter an art contest seeking to honor victims and first responders of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Forest Lawn Community Outreach has launched its annual Never Forget Tribute Youth Art Exhibition and Contest. The exhibit and contest is open to all Greenwood area middle and high school youth.

Classrooms and groups can receive cash prizes for their participation. Prizes will be awarded as follows: $500 most participation; $200 second most participation; $100 third most participation.

Individual entrants also are eligible for cash prizes.

<strong>Representative opens art competition</strong>

High school students are invited to submit their art for consideration by a United States representative.

Representative Trey Hollingsworth invites all high school students who are residents of Indianaā€™s Ninth Congressional District to enter the 2018 Congressional Art Competition. The winner will have his or her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year.

Students may submit their original, two-dimensional artwork to Hollingsworthā€™s district offices in Jeffersonville or Greenwood for the contest.

Local leaders and artists from across the district will judge the competition.

To be considered in the competition, students must hand-deliver or mail their entries along with typed student release forms to Hollingsworthā€™s offices no later than 5 p.m. April 11. This yearā€™s artwork theme is ā€œTraditions.ā€

<strong>Annual youth essay contest announced</strong>

High school and middle school students can write about the true meaning of Memorial Day and earn a cash prize.

Forest Lawn Community Outreach has opened its annual youth writing contest titled, ā€œThe True Meaning of Memorial Day.ā€ The contest is open to all Greenwood middle- and high-school students.

Essay submissions are being received through April 30. Winning essays will be announced at the May 28 award ceremony taking place at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens and Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood.

A total of six prizes will be awarded: $500 will be awarded to one each middle- and high-school first-place winner; $200 will be awarded to the first runner-up at both the middle- and high-school levels and $100 will be awarded to the second runner-up at both levels.

Winning essays will be featured on the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens and Funeral Home website, social media page and other related print and electronic media.
