Girls tennis

Trojans top Bull Dogs

A clean sweep of singles helped No. 7 Center Grove post a 4-1 victory against No. 14 Columbus North on Friday. Isabella Schoolcraft, Ellie Strube and Jillian Garrett each won in straight sets.

The Trojans also got a point at No. 2 doubles from Abby Hoard and Holyn Aukerman.

Lancers top Waldron

Sophia Parmer’s three-set win at second singles secured Edinburgh’s 3-2 triumph against Waldron on Friday. The Lancers won both doubles points via forfeit.

Warriors edge Quakers

A 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 comeback win from Emma Britt at No. 3 singles lifted Whiteland past Plainfield, 3-2, on Thursday. Reese Johnson and Haley Darling also earned singles victories for the Warriors (5-1, 3-0 Mid-State), who host Franklin this morning in a county tournament semifinal.

Woodmen blank Hawks

Greenwood swept Decatur Central on Thursday, 5-0. Maddie Bright, Emily Chatham and Megan Johns were all straight-set winners in singles.

The first doubles team of Alyssa Roscoe and Maecee Terhune also won in two sets for the Woodmen (4-4, 2-2 Mid-State) while the No. 2 team of Brittney Mandabach and Ally Hussung prevailed in three.

Braves pull out narrow win

Ali Harris posted a three-set win at No. 2 singles to help Indian Creek seal a 3-2 victory at Southwestern (Shelbyville) on Thursday. The Braves swept the doubles points. The No. 1 team of Mya Piccone and Mekenzie Hunter won in straight sets, as did the No. 2 tandem of Addie Rund and Brooke Coy.

Wrestling

Trojans hire new head coach

Center Grove has hired former North Montgomery coach Maurice Swain to take over as the varsity wrestling coach. The hire was approved at a school board meeting Thursday night.

Swain, who also will teach physical education and health at the high school, spent the previous eight seasons as the head coach at North Montgomery. He succeeds longtime coach Cale Hoover, who stepped down at the end of this past season.

Boys volleyball

Grizzly Cubs swept by Irish

Ninth-ranked Franklin fell in three sets at No. 2 Cathedral on Thursday night, 25-21, 25-14, 25-23. Logan Snyder had six digs and Andy Bennett had six block assists in defeat.
