Leona “Margaret” Smith, 91, passed away on April 22, 2018 at Community South in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Franklin.

Margaret was born November 8th, 1926 in Johnson County, Indiana to George and Bernice (Utterback) Leonard. She married Charles Arthur Smith on July 3rd, 1948. He preceded her in passing on January 13th, 1992.

Margaret is survived by children, Jennifer K. Cromer of Franklin, Cheryl (Dan) Yeager of East Moline, Illinois, and Ron (Denise) Smith of Edinburgh; grandchildren, James E. (Julie) Cummings, Jena M. (Kurt) Martin, Jessica S. Cummings, Shawn C. (Terri) Yeager, Payton M. (Sarena) Yeager, Bryan D. Yeager, Melissa (Tom) Crawhorn, David (LaShana) Fisette, Matt Smith and grandson-in-law, Kevin Bay. Also surviving are twenty-eight great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Letha Ramey and Sandy Leonard, both of Nineveh and one brother, Robert Leonard of Missouri. She was preceded in passing by her parents; husband, Charles; daughter, Pamela Jane Smith in 2005; granddaughter, Janice Cummings Bay and siblings, Walter Leonard, Wilma Jean Carey, Harry Leonard and Glenda Leonard.

She was a 1947 graduate of Whiteland High School.

Margaret was a wife, mother and homemaker. She was a caregiver for many years for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many children in the community of Franklin.

She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and a member of Union Village Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Her hobbies included watching the QVC channel and gardening in her yard. She was an avid Indiana University Basketball fan.

Rev. Matt Gibler will conduct a celebration of Margaret’s life on Friday, April 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call on Thursday evening, April 26th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Dan Yeager will conduct a graveside service Friday, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, Indiana.
