Man arrested after high speed chase

A Greenwood man was arrested after police said he led them on a high speed chase that covered more than 10 miles.

Buck Best, 28, has been arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement and criminal recklessness.

A Greenwood police officer attempted to stop Best around noon Saturday, who was riding a motorcycle with an improperly mounted license plate on U.S. 31, south of Main Street, a probable cause affidavit said.

Best turned onto Smith Valley Road at a high speed and began to weave in and out of traffic. He continued speeding, at one point driving through several yards, before getting onto Interstate 65 at the Worthsville Road interchange, the affidavit said.

Once on I-65, Best sped up and officers lost sight of him as he headed toward the Whiteland Road exit. Best was found after a witness saw him hiding riding equipment underneath a feed store and called 911, the affidavit said.

Best told officers that he had fled from them because he hadn’t updated his license plate, the affidavit said.

Best, 2164 Village Crossing Drive East, Apt. F, was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail. He was released on $3,200 bond.
