College Notebook: Carter drives in six in Taylor win

Taylor senior Davis Carter picked up three base hits and drove in six runs in a 12-2 victory at Grace. Carter, a former Greenwood player, is batting .442 for the Spartans this season to go along with a team-high 38 RBIs.

GREENWOOD

Former Georgia softball player Brittany Gray has been drafted in the National Pro Fastpitch Draft by the Beijing Shougang Eagles with the 14th overall pick. Gray, a senior, had a 16-1 pitching record this season and ranked second nationally in earned-run average before sustaining a biceps injury that ended her college career.

Sophomore Reid Werner pitched the first 5 2/3 innings of Indianapolis’ 7-6 baseball win over McKendree.

Franklin College pitcher Mitch Caster picked up a save in the Grizzlies’ 10-9 defeat of Thomas More, The senior pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed a hit.

Senior Alex Hammer helped Franklin College to a 9-0 win against Defiance in men’s tennis. Hammer plays No. 1 singles and is also part of the team’s top doubles tandem.

CENTER GROVE

Junior right fielder Victoria Boyer had hits in all four at-bats for Indiana Wesleyan in its 11-3 victory over St. Francis in softball.

Junior Mallory Baker had a hit in Purdue softball’s 3-2 win at Wisconsin. She later finished a 4-3 loss to the Badgers with three singles.

Ball State junior tennis player Conner Andersen is 13-18 in singles play and 15-14 in doubles this season for the Cardinals, who started play in the Mid-American Conference tournament on Friday.

Junior Austin Crowder shot 77-77-73—227 to help IUPUI men’s golf to a third-place finish at the Horizon League Championships at Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida. This allowed Crowder to tie for ninth individually.

Franklin College golfer Jackson Williams shot a two-day score of 156 to help the Grizzlies place fifth among 17 teams at the Defiance Spring Invitational.

Shortstop Ethan Brooks had a double for Grace in a 6-4 loss to Spring Arbor.

Indiana Wesleyan left fielder Nick Coy blasted a two-run homer in a 9-4 loss to Mount Vernon Nazarene. He drove in two more runs in wins against Nazarene and Goshen.

Lipscomb sprinter Grant Mason finished ninth in the 200-meter dash at the Georgia Tech Invitational in a time of 21.46 seconds. The freshman helped the Bison 4×100 team place sixth in 41.91 seconds.

Davidson junior Tori Long contributed to the second-fastest 4×400 relay time in program history when the Wildcats clocked a 3:51.79 at the Duke Invitational.

INDIAN CREEK

Grace freshman pitcher Dori Knight tossed a one-hitter in an 8-0 shutout of Bethel.

Franklin College freshman Hunter Fields tied for sixth place in the high jump at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Invitational.

Marian pitcher Brenden Smith allowed four hits in five innings after getting the start in the Knights’ 4-1 loss to St. Francis.

WHITELAND

Taylor’s Jared Adkins had a single and stolen base in both games of a doubleheader sweep of Goshen. He also produced doubles in games against Goshen and Grace.

Leadoff hitter Monica Collins picked up at least one hit in each of Franklin College’s last six games. The junior collected two hits each in games against Mount St. Joseph and Defiance. Collins had an RBI single in an 11-3 victory over Hanover.

FRANKLIN

Freshman Chandler McGaha finished third for Butler in the 800-meter run in 1:55.02 at the Pacesetter Sports Invitational hosted by Indiana State.

Jacob Hash, a junior for Franklin College men’s golf, tied for 32nd place individually at the Defiance Spring Invitational with a score of 78-76—154. The Grizzlies finished fifth in the final team standings of 17 programs.

Marian freshman Sam Barnett ran a time of 59.89 seconds to place 33rd in the 400-meter hurdles at the Duke Invitational.

Senior first baseman Grace Paszek has up 11 hits for Franklin College softball during the team’s last eight games. Olivia Paszek pitched four of the team’s victories over that stretch, including a three-hitter in a 7-0 victory over Defiance. She is 15-1, with every outing being a complete game.

RONCALLI

Butler senior Abby Gleixner, a Greenwood resident, tied for second individually at the Big East Championship in Callawassie Island, S.C. She finished with a 13-over-par score of 229 over the three rounds to help the Bulldogs place fourth.

HOME SCHOOL

Greenwood native David Beasley closed out his IUPUI men’s tennis career with singles victories against Green Bay and Youngstown State at the Horizon League tournament.
