Baseball

Edinburgh hammers Yellow Jackets

Zach Giles and Bryce Burton each homered and Edinburgh used an eight-run sixth inning to finish off Morristown, 12-1, on Friday.

Burton knocked in three runs with his shot. Coltan Henderson had two RBIs at the plate while striking out nine and allowing just three hits in five innings for the win.

Softball

Lancers again crush Morristown

Sidney Beier and winning pitcher Vanessa McManaway each drove in three runs as Edinburgh routed Morristown for the second straight day, winning 15-0 in five innings on Friday.

McManaway, who went 4 for 4, and Paige Burton each hit a pair of doubles for the Lancers (9-3, 7-1 Mid-Hoosier).

Warriors drop pitchers’ duel

Delanie Gourley scattered six hits in a strong complete-game outing, but a sixth-inning sacrifice fly allowed Class 4A No. 11 Decatur Central to escape with a 1-0 win over Whiteland on Thursday.

Girls tennis

Braves edge Artesians

Indian Creek loaded up its doubles teams and Addie Rund prevailed in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles to clinch an exciting 3-2 victory over Martinsville on Thursday.

Rund rallied for a 6-7, 6-4, 7-6 win over Sydney Smith to put the Braves over the top. Katie Burkman and Ali Harris, normally the team’s top two singles players, won at No. 1 and 2 doubles with Mekenzie Hunter and Alyssa Pruitt, respectively.

Boys golf

Trojans finish third

Playing in a three-way match with No. 5 Zionsville and No. 4 Westfield on Thursday, top-ranked Center Grove wound up in third with a score of 319. Noah Gillard (76) and Sam Jean (78) paced the Trojans.

Track and field

Franklin boys dominate

Franklin easily won a three-way meet with Mooresville and Greencastle on Thursday. The Grizzly Cubs got two first-place finishes each from Andrew Bixler (800 and 1,600), Nick Riggles (110 and 300 hurdles) and Matt Frazier (long jump and pole vault).
