Local wind ensembles earn gold

Local students earned berths to state finals with their performances over the weekend.

Wind ensembles, which are concert bands that typically play using woodwind, brass and percussion instruments, competed with other schools in central Indiana.

The wind symphony at Center Grove High School earned gold with distinction and a gold in sight reading at a weekend competition. The other wind group, the wind ensemble, earned gold with distinction and gold in sight reading at Warren Central High School.

Their performance earned them a berth to the state finals this weekend.

Whiteland’s wind symphony received a gold rating with distinction with a gold rating in sight reading. Greenwood’s wind group also earned gold with distinction.

Franklin’s wind ensemble performed earlier in April. Both of their wind performance groups earned gold ratings.
