Baseball

Braves continue win streak

Dawson Read homered and doubled and Wyatt Phillips struck out eight in a one-hit shutout as Indian Creek roughed up Class A No. 1 Hauser on Thursday, 12-0.

On Wednesday, Dylan Sprong hit a grand slam and Read went deep in an 11-1 win over Cascade. Jared DeHart added three hits in that win for the Braves (13-2, 4-0 WIC), who have won eight in a row.

Woodmen fall to Bull Dogs

Columbus North scored early and often in a 14-0 victory over Greenwood on Thursday. The loss dropped the Woodmen to 4-12.

Softball

Cougars storm back for win

A nine-run sixth inning lifted Greenwood Christian to a 19-11 win over Irvington Prep on Thursday.

Abigail Warner went 5 for 5 to lead the Cougars (7-2), while Avery Shingleton and Izzy Reed each added four hits and scored four runs.

Trojans rout Warriors

Abby Herbst pitched a two-hitter, striking out eight, as Center Grove took care of Warren Central, 13-1, on Thursday.

The Class 4A No. 1 Trojans (21-0, 5-0 MIC) closed the game out with 10 runs in the fifth inning. Herbst also had a pair of doubles at the plate.

Braves win handily

Indian Creek scored at least two runs in each of its turns at the plate in a 13-3 home victory over Columbus North on Thursday.

Rachel Kyle hit a pair of doubles for the Braves (8-6).

Woodmen come up short

Greenwood suffered a 14-7 defeat against Shelbyville on Thursday. Haley Sylvester had three RBIs for the Woodmen (3-15), while Alexis Rees and Kiley Hankenhoff each knocked in two.

Indian Creek edges Cadets

Rachel Kyle had four hits as Indian Creek pulled out an 8-7 conference win against Cascade on Wednesday. The victory improved the Braves to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the WIC.

Boys golf

Warriors defeat Lancers

Whiteland rolled past Edinburgh on Thursday, 176 to 220.

Zach Ricketts and Walt Brady each shot 43 to lead the Warriors, while Braden Hancock carded the same score for the Lancers.

Miscellany

Roncalli athletes honored

A pair of Roncalli athletes were recent recipients of major honors.

Senior Jack Bauer was chosen as a swimming All-American by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association of America.

Senior Kathleen Soler won the I Am Sport Award at last weekend’s IndyStar Sports Awards, recognizing her commitment to helping children in the community discover the benefits of youth sports and physical activity.
