Roy E. Thayer passed away on May 3rd, 2018 at the age of 97. He was born on July 28th, 1920 in Tuscola, IL. He moved to Greenwood in 1956. Roy retired as an Engineer from Ford in 1982. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 70 years and served on the Greenwood city council. Roy was an avid volunteer, receiving Ford man of the year in 1964 for his community service and Johnson county senior volunteer of the year in 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary. Surviving family include his daughters, Robin Smith and Linda Ryder; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Thayer will be held at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Services and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, on Wednesday, May 9 at 1:00 PM. The family will be receiving guests at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
