Sectional brackets set in baseball

None of Johnson County’s four Class 4A baseball teams made it out of the sectional last spring. Only one will even get a chance to play for the title this year.

The local squads were all stacked on one side of the draw for this year’s Whiteland Sectional — guaranteeing that a county team will make the final but also ensuring that no more than one will make it.

Franklin and Center Grove will meet up in one first-round game, with Greenwood taking on the host Warriors in the other. The winners of those two games will face off in one semifinal, with Franklin Central and Martinsville meeting in the other.

Whiteland coach Scott Sherry believes that regardless of matchups, this sectional will be as wide-open as it usually is.

“It’s always a competitive, fun sectional,” he said. “Anybody could do it. Obviously, there’s teams that’ll be favored, but … it just comes down to execution.”

Indian Creek has executed well in the postseason the past two years and will be looking for a third straight sectional title. The Braves drew a first-round bye in the Class 3A Bishop Chatard Sectional and will take on Broad Ripple in a semifinal game.

In the Class A Morristown Sectional, defending champion Edinburgh faces a first-round game against Indianapolis Lutheran, which moves into the field after winning a sectional of its own a year ago. Greenwood Christian received a bye on the other side of the bracket and will take on Southwestern (Shelbyville) in a semifinal matchup.
