Mr. James Earl “Jim” Stahl, age 73, of Franklin, Indiana formerly of Madison entered this life on October 12, 1944 in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was the loving son of the late, Earl Heisler and Helen Mary Chorjel Stahl. He was raised in his early years in Mingo Junction, Ohio and his family moved to Madison when he was 10 years old so his father could work at IKEC. He was raised and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in downtown Madison. Jim was a 1962 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School and attended Hanover College for two years. While at Hanover College he played football and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Jim was inducted into the United States Army on November 22, 1965, during the Vietnam War. He rose to the rate of Sergeant serving in the Eighth Army. He served his overseas duty in the artillery unit in the DMZ in Korea. He was honorably discharged on August 28, 1968 from Fort Lewis, Washington receiving the Good Conduct Medal. He remained in the Reserves and was discharged on November 21, 1971. Jim was united in marriage to Diana Loveless and this union was blessed with two sons, James E. II and Jonathan Harold. He loved to travel and his career in the clothing industry as a buyer for Target and Montgomery Ward allowed him to do just that. He enjoyed his many travels on buying trips around the World especially to the Orient. He would also serve as a store opener and manager for several other companies all over the USA. On August 26, 1994 Jim was united in marriage to his former classmate, Barbara Ann Wehner at the Trinity United Methodist Church. This happy union of 24 years would blend two families together. Jim enjoyed Golf, playing Poker and Bridge, watching classic movies, traveling, and showing his grandchildren new adventures. Jim died on Friday, May 4, 2018, at 12:15 a.m. at the Community Heart and Vascular Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Jim will be missed by his loving wife of 24 years, Barbara Ann Wehner Stahl of Franklin, Indiana; his loving sons, James E. Stahl, II and his wife, Rheanna of Houston, Texas, Jonathan Harold Stahl and his wife, Cori of Denver, Colorado; his loving step son, Darin A. Briner and his wife, Darlene of Martinsville, Indiana; his loving step daughter, Amy K. Briner Clark and her husband, Kyle of Martinsville, Indiana; his loving sister, Rebecca Stahl Chidister and her husband, John of Evansville, Indiana; his grandchildren, Mason James Stahl, Raelyn Marie Stahl, Jace Taylor Stahl, Dylan Elizabeth Stahl, Hunter James Stahl, Ashley Ann Briner, Codie Lynn Briner, Jacob Anthony Clark and Cameron Bradley Clark; his loving great grandson, Caden Alexander Briner; his nieces, Brittany Chidister Fink and her husband, Evan and Molly Chidister; 2-nephews; his sisters in law and brothers in laws, Diana Wehner of Madison, Indiana, Marilyn Wehner of Madison, Indiana, Joan Wehner of Madison, Indiana, Kenneth Jr. and Polly Wehner of Madison, Indiana, James Wehner of Madison, Indiana, Tom and Jackie Wehner of Madison, Indiana; several cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Heisler Stahl, his mother, Helen Mary Chorjel Stahl, his brother, Richard Stahl, his step son and step daughter, Dwayne Anthony Briner and Christine Angela White.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor Dennis Ingle at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana. Friends may call Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. A final salute will be conducted on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion with full military honors to follow at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison.
