Man arrested on charge of driving lawn mower while intoxicated

A man was arrested after police said he was driving a lawnmower while drunk for the second time in a month.

Barry Ridge, 46, Franklin, was arrested on a charge of operating while intoxicated with a previous conviction.

A resident in the 5000 block of East County Road 100N, which is east of Needham, called police about 5:15 p.m. Saturday saying that a man on a lawn mower had begun to mow his yard until being told to leave, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.

An officer found Ridge traveling west on County Road 100N, near County Road 500E. Ridge told officers that he was traveling back to his home after visiting a relative and that he had consumed three beers about an hour earlier, the report said. A test showed Ridge’s blood-alcohol content was .17 percent, more than twice the legal limit to be considered too intoxicated to drive, the report said.

Ridge had previously been arrested April 4 on a charge of operating under the influence when he was riding a lawn mower in a store parking lot, the report said.

Ridge, 250 West St., was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held on $2,400 bond.
