Franklin College

Baseball reaches HCAC title game

Franklin College slugged its way to 11 runs in the final three innings, storming back for a 13-9 home win over Rose-Hulman in the semifinal round of the HCAC tournament on Friday.

The top-seeded Grizzlies (37-3) will play either Rose-Hulman or Anderson in the title game at 12:30 p.m. today.

Frank Podkul led the way offensively for Franklin with a pair of solo home runs and three RBIs. Ryan Bixler also homered in the win, while Brandt Pawley had three hits and drove in three runs.

Whiteland coasts to victory

In a battle of Warriors on Friday, Whiteland rolled to an easy 5-0 victory over Warren Central.

Reese Johnson, Haley Darling and Sophie Venter won their respective singles matches in straight sets for Whiteland (14-4). Sarah Scott and Bri Harwell earned a point at No. 1 doubles, while Riley Burnside and Hannah Blum were victorious at No. 2.

Trojans sweep Delta

Sixth-ranked Center Grove pulled out a pair of close doubles wins to secure a 5-0 sweep of No. 12 Delta on Thursday. Emily Hoy and Ashlee Fisk won two tight sets at No. 1, while Abby Hoard and Holyn Aukerman did the same in the No. 2 spot.

The singles victories came more easily, with Isabella Schoolcraft, Ellie Strube and Jillian Garrett surrendering a combined four games.

Grizzly Cubs cruise past Artesians

Javan Johnson and Damon Dickey each carded a 36 to lead No. 10 Franklin to a comfortable 149-169 win over Martinsville at Hillview on Thursday. Blake McIntire and Matt Jordan added rounds of 38 and 39, respectively, for the Grizzly Cubs.

Whiteland grads honored at Taylor

Four former Whiteland student-athletes now competing at Taylor University were named as NAIA All-American Scholar Athletes this week.

Jared Adkins, Landry Long, Jacob Scott and Andi Stewart were among those honored. The designation is bestowed upon juniors and seniors competing at the varsity level who have a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
