Letter: Shocking accusations fly in face of coach’s contributions

To the editor:

I am writing on behalf of Eric Moore, Center Grove High School’s head football and track and field coach. Many parents of CGHS students are aware and demanding you support Mr. Moore’s continued leadership role as teacher and coach at Center Grove High School. The recent news story regarding allegations against him has left many parents and students alike quite upset.

While I don’t have a child coached by Mr. Moore, I have many friends who do. What I see first-hand from this man is remarkable. He makes men of boys. Not just average men, great men; respectful, kind, honest, strong, leading men. Eric Moore is and has always been an accomplished coach and excellent mentor, but he and his family are also personal friends. Many in Center Grove can say that, and likely will. His contributions to Center Grove Football, the Center Grove Bantam Football League, Center Grove Track and Field and to the Center Grove community as whole, are extraordinary and beyond words.

I have personally known Coach Moore for nearly 10 years and he deserves accolades for the mentoring of his “kids” (athletes and students alike), on and off the field. He has always been there for my friends’ kids, and our families, in any capacity we may need. I am shocked by these allegations. I wonder if there is a successful coach, or parent for that matter, out there who hasn’t raised a voice to a player, in any sport. It is my hope, along with many others in the community, the Center Grove School Board remains supportive of Coach Moore. May his hard work, determination, dedication to CGHS, the students as well as athletes, and the community rise above these disturbing allegations.

I fully support Coach Eric Moore and his future success at Center Grove High School. It would be detrimental to the Center Grove Community School Corp. to lose such an outstanding influence, mentor, coach, confidant and teacher. #supportcoachmoore
