Police are investigating after a girl reported that a man asked her to get into his vehicle while she was planting flowers in a Center Grove area neighborhood.
The 11-year-old girl was planting flowers at a home in the 500 block of Shady Lane in the Carefree neighborhood just after 8 p.m. Friday. The girl told police a man driving a white minivan with tinted windows stopped, called her “sweetheart” and asked to give her a ride home, but she refused, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.
The girl told investigators that the man was in his 40s with black or brown hair, a beard and glasses and was the only person in the vehicle, the report said.
Deputies checked the neighborhood but didn’t find the van, the report said. A van seen on a surveillance camera nearby was shown to the girl on Monday, but the girl said it was not the van she saw on Friday, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate.
