<p>A Center Grove area man lost money in a scam earlier this week, police said.</p>
<p>The man told investigators that he received a call Tuesday morning from a man claiming to be a representative of Publishers Clearing House. The caller requested that he mail them a check for $299 to receive a prize he had won of $2.5 million, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.</p>
<p>The man said he thought the call was real because of online drawings he had entered, and he mailed a check to an address in Iowa, the report said.</p>
<p>According to Publishers Clearing House, prize winners are never asked to make a payment to claim a prize, and winners will be either notified in person or by mail.</p>
