Residents find vehicles broken into in Franklin

Seven vehicles in Franklin neighborhoods were broken into or rummaged through during the weekend.

The residents of Franklin Lakes and an apartment complex reported the break-ins to the police department on Saturday morning.

In one instance, a Franklin Lakes resident’s surveillance system captured photos of a man going through his vehicle after the owner mistakenly left a door unlocked. Nothing had been left in the vehicle, so no items were missing, the report said.

The home security camera recorded the footage of the thief in his vehicle about 2 a.m. Saturday, and showed the suspect going through every part of the vehicle, including the back seats, the report said. The suspect was carrying a backpack.

All but one of the vehicle break-ins occurred in that neighborhood, off U.S. 31 across from Greenlawn Cemetery.

One resident reported to police on Saturday morning that two vehicles had been rummaged through and change was missing. Both vehicles had been left unlocked, the police report said.

Another resident in the same neighborhood told police that two vehicles that had been left unlocked in the driveway were broken into. Three chargers and change was taken, and the console’s change holder was found in the yard.

A neighbor on the same street, Youngs Creek Drive, told police that she had found her garage door open on Saturday morning and that cabinet doors and a vehicle door were open. Change, a power tool and accessories and an air compressor were missing, the report said.

Another theft from a vehicle was reported further north, in the Northwood Apartments complex off U.S. 31. A vehicle had been left unlocked, and change was missing, the report said.
