Golf

Crowder wins Northern Open

Austin Crowder shot a 4-under-par 68 and then prevailed in a playoff to claim the title at the Indiana PGA Northern Open earlier this week.

Crowder posted birdies on the fourth and seventh holes, both par-5s, and eagled the par-4 10th. He did not record a bogey in his round.

Shepherds continue to excel

Erica Shepherd finished with a 3-over-par 75 on a tough scoring day at the Rolex Girls Junior Championship, moving her way up into a tie for 14th heading into today’s final round. 

Just four players of the 72 players in the field broke par on Thursday.

Older brother Ethan Shepherd, enjoyed his own success on Wednesday, shooting a 4-under-par 68 to win a qualifier for the Southern Amateur Championship by two strokes.

The Indiana University sophomore will return to Bowling Green, Kentucky, for that tournament July 18-21.

Basketball

Jackson-Davis, USA roll into semis

Trayce Jackson-Davis enjoyed his best game thus far at the FIBA U18 Americas Championship, scoring a team-high 20 points in the United States’ 132-55 quartertfinal thumping of Ecuador on Thursday.

The Center Grove senior, who shot 10 of 10 from the floor, added 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a blocked shot in less than 23 minutes of action. He is now 18 for 19 on field goals through four tournament games.

The Americans will play Argentina in a semifinal matchup today.
